I Really Hate My Job - What to Do

I Really Hate My Job - What to Do

I understand your pain. Working at a place you hate totally sucks. It's bad enough to suffer 90 minutes in commuter traffic. But to have to come in to deal with people who obviously require medication is just a travesty. And yes the unidentifiable stain on the seat of your pants from the subway seat will wash out.

To answer your question - does the work you do make a difference?

Maybe, maybe not. The point is you hate it regardless. Even if your job is saving one-eyed, hump backed children from third world nations. We both know you could give a rat's booty if the customer is happy. What you do know, is that if you have to hear your co-worker pop her gum one more time, you will go totally postal.

And Naw, a vacation ain't gonna fix your ticket.

It's time to get out buddy. Could finding another 9 to 5 or 8 to late be the solution for you? Maybe. Some people are meant to be cogs in the system, dedicated workers to the 'man'. That could be you. If you are lucky, there'll be a nice 401K in it for you.

New thought here - stay with me- how about making your own money? Stop waiting for someone to give you a paycheck. Yeah how about creating a service, or a product or even teaching something you know about? Better yet do one of those things around something you love. A passion. That way when you get up to go to work it doesn't feel like . . . well work.

Can you make a living like that? Of freaking course you can. It ain't easy. Don't get me wrong. There is a learning curve. You may have to pick up a friggin' book and read. Or at least listen to a podcast. I know you have i-tunes, go download something on how to start your own business, or self-confidence, or home based businesses.

Hmm, check out Seth Godin, Barbara Sher, Barbara Winter, Valerie Young, T. Harv Eker, Robert Kiyosaki, or Robert Allen. Anyone of those people offer tons of information on becoming financially independent or how to make a living doing something you love.

Isn't life too darn short?

Leaving the cubicle life is scary. I get it. But can't you feel time slipping away? Do you want your legacy to be office politics, begging for raises, and coworker gossip? Or do you want to wake up every morning content you are on the path that is meant uniquely for you?

Take it one step at a time. Change takes time. Make a plan. Get another job that is not as toxic (before you launch your own business, that is.)

But you must start to bring in income based on your terms. If you're smart and diligent the money will come from doing something you love.

Writing Content Jobs - Where the Entrepreneurial Writer Can Go

In an earlier article I wrote about the entrepreneurial opportunities waiting for writers. The internet has a plethora of sites where writers can look for content writing gigs and hang their "writer for hire" sign. Below are a few sites to get started. Don't forget to check out my other article: "Entrepreneur Ideas for Writers" over at the entrepreneur ideas page at www.startupharmony.com

ODesk - is the place to hire and seek outsourcers. Employers go here to find freelancers of all types of skills. Writers can benefit from jobs where writing skills are required for composing blog posts, ghostwriting, reports, technical writing, fact-checking and more.

Craigslist.org - is the resource to advertise your flair for words and cruise postings in the gigs, creative, and job sections.

Jobs.problogger.net - Problogger.net is likely one of the forerunners of cashing in on blogging. The site has launched a job board chock full of writing opportunities.

Elance - Another freelancer site where a smart writer can keep her or his eye out for posts from employers as well as hang out their own "qualified writer for hire" sign.

Warrior Forum - an internet forum where aspiring and pro- internet marketers go to swap info, brag, and seek opportunities. There's a section called 'warrior products and services' where folks can advertise their services. In the "warrior special offers" section - is great to drum up some new clients by offering a deal. The warrior forum does its best to ward off scammers so read up on the current rules before posting.

Site Point - is a forum dedicated to webmasters. Over in their marketplace, writers can advertise for content writing opportunities such as composing articles, ebooks, web-text and more.

eBay - eBay is for selling all types of stuff - and stuff includes services for hire. Put up an auction for a writing service. Gain attention by using popular keywords in the listing and headline. When the listing is live, bookmark it to social sites so more eyes can see your page.

I know, I know, coming up with ideas on how to turn something you like into a money can be rough.  Come visit me at www.startupharmony.com for tons of ideas and resources.

Content Writing Jobs – Entrepreneur Ideas For Writers

If you have strong writing skills, try switching from thinking like an employee to an entrepreneur. There are tons of opportunities for writing gigs on the internet. A savvy writer just needs to know where to look and what to look for.

What is the internet used for – the dissemination of information. Internet marketers and business owners leverage the internet to attract customers to their products and services. They accomplish this by providing good content in the form of articles, e books, reports, videos, and audios.
However providing content is in never ending demand which forces entrepreneurs to constantly create new materials.

Business owners want to be running their business, not writing full time. As a result, they hunt for someone who can take care of that task for them. For the writer, who is also an entrepreneur, this translates to opportunity.

Here’s a list of what a writer can provide for business owners who market on the internet:

Sales Copy - Similar to how a salesman knows how to score a sale in person, a sales letter must accomplish the same thing in written form. The ideal letter will convert website visitors into buyers. Writing copy is a skill that’s in great demand and can command fees from $200 to over $2000.

Write Articles – Article marketing is a common technique used by internet marketers to attract traffic to websites and create backlinks. Articles are placed in articles directories and blogs. The average article is about 350 words but can vary from 250 to 500 or more. Articles need to be well written and informative.

E-books – Digital downloads are the best way to sell information. It’s inexpensive to produce and provides immediate gratification for a hungry buyers. An e book can be a brief report of about two pages up or longer with 20 pages or more. People may want a book written based on information they provide or want it totally researched by the writer.

Posts – Blogging can be big dollars. Marketers put up many blogs on varying topics and need a constant stream of current material. A good writer could provide posts for a blog that are informative, entertaining, and well written.

Scripts for Videos – Video marketing is another technique used to drive traffic to websites. Biz owners may want the face time but not take the time to do research on a topic. Writing the script and research is a perfect opp. for a writer.

Email Responder messages - Savvy website owners keep in touch with potential clients via email. Those emails need to be informative and drive sales back to the homepage. A writer can sell packs of email message pre-written for a niche market or compose them per request

Social Networking posts (Facebook) – Social networking is a driving force for attracting customers and building a following. Someone who is eloquent with words can step in for a business owner or internet marketer to run their social media campaign.

PLR Packs – PLR stands for Private Label Rights. This means that a report or e book is sold and the buyer does not have to give credit to the writer. The buyer can claim the byline, edit the text or leave it as is. Folks are always anxious to buy pre-written information for blogs, website text, newsletters, giveaway reports and more.

Forum Posts – Nothing is worse than a forum post or reply that relatively says nothing. However a solid, well-written post can drive traffic to a website. Marketers don’t want to spend time putting up post so a savvy writer could save them time for a fee.
